Want to work as an electrician in Norway? Find out how to obtain DSB approval
To obtain it, you must submit an application and provide the relevant documents. A Polish diploma or certificate of qualifications alone does not replace a DSB decision.
Start by gathering the documents. If you obtained your qualifications in Poland, you use the procedure for people with qualifications from the EU/EEA. As an electrician, prepare:
\r\n
- \r\n
- a CV with dates of education and employment; \r\n
- a school completion certificate, transcript of grades and curriculum; \r\n
- a diploma or other documents confirming professional qualifications; \r\n
- confirmation of practical training completed as part of your education; \r\n
- certificates from employers confirming professional experience; \r\n
- a copy of a valid passport. \r\n\r\n
Then prepare the translations. Polish documents must be accompanied by a translation made by an authorised translator. DSB prefers English, but also accepts Norwegian. Attach copies of the originals and translations as PDF files to your application.
If you do not know which documents need to be translated, you can use MultiNOR’s assistance. A consultant will check which attachments require translation, and the company can also handle the translation.
Attach the completed documents to your application in the DSB portal. In the form, select the profession for which you are applying for recognition. If you plan to work regularly in Norway, check the procedure for permanent recognition of qualifications. A separate procedure applies to the temporary provision of services.
Before submitting your application, you must pay the processing fee:
\r\n
- \r\n
- NOK 3,200 for one profession; \r\n
- NOK 2,400 for each additional profession included in the same application. \r\n
This is an official fee for assessing the documents. When planning your budget, also consider any costs of translations and assistance with preparing the application.
After submitting your application, you wait for DSB’s assessment. The authority can begin processing your case only after receiving all the required information. Therefore, before submitting your application, it is worth checking all attachments and subsequently responding to requests for additional documents.
DSB states a processing time of four months for a complete application for permanent recognition of qualifications. However, it currently reports delays, so the wait may be longer.
Would you prefer to prepare your application with a consultant’s help? MultiNOR helps you create the account required for applying, prepares the application and supports the client throughout the procedure. You can start with a free consultation and discuss the documents you already have.

Do you have another profession? Check HK-dir.
If you are, for example, a bricklayer, carpenter, cook or car mechanic, you can check whether your education can be recognised by HK-dir. Such confirmation can be used when looking for work or negotiating pay.
Processing an application by HK-dir is free of charge, but translations and assistance in preparing the application may involve a fee. Confirmation from HK-dir does not replace the DSB decision required for an electrician.
MultiNOR also helps prepare an application for HK-dir.
