So far, 14 road accident fatalities have been recorded in Vestland. Last year, the number was five. In Innlandet, the number of victims is 13, compared to nine people in the same period in 2024. Trygg Trafikk points out that 89 fatalities have already been recorded, which already exceeds the total number of road deaths last year (87).

More and More Motorcyclists Are Dying in Norway

In September, two people died in motorcycle accidents. Both were young men. In the 16–18 age group, light motorcycle drivers have the least experience and limited risk assessment skills, which increases their vulnerability to serious accidents.

The road safety organization Trygg Trafikk emphasizes the need to refresh driving skills for both inexperienced and more advanced drivers before each season. Compared to last year, 20 people died on motorcycles in 2024. The number has now risen to 24.

They Want Changes for Motorcyclists

The organization has presented proposals for possible preventive measures: introducing mandatory refresher courses, raising the minimum age to 18 for light motorcycle drivers, limiting maximum speed, requiring additional safety equipment beyond helmets, and extending the penalty point system to light motorcycles. Experts point out that in autumn conditions, when weather and road surface conditions change, speed should be adjusted to the time of day and prevailing weather.

Trygg Trafikk appeals for the route itself to become part of a safe journey, not just a means to an end. Together with partners, the organization is considering implementing new measures in the future.
