The year 2025 was the deadliest on Norwegian roads in years. According to preliminary data, 111 road users lost their lives. This is a clear increase compared to 2024, when 87 fatalities were recorded. The information was provided by the Trygg Trafikk organization.
In December 2025 alone, nine people died in road accidents. Throughout the year, men made up the vast majority of victims.

94 men and 17 women were killed, while the previous year the numbers were 66 and 22, respectively. This was the highest number of male fatalities since 2016.

Unprotected road users are increasingly dying

Data shows that nearly half of those killed were unprotected road users. Their share was 47%.

In 2025, 11 cyclists and 10 pedestrians died, which means an increase in both groups. There were also four fatalities involving quad bikes and two people riding electric scooters.

High number of motorcyclist fatalities

The number of motorcyclist fatalities is also alarming. Since 2022, it has remained at around 20 people per year.

In 2025, 24 motorcycle riders lost their lives. Statistics show a particularly high number of serious accidents involving young drivers aged 16 and 17.
The highest number of fatalities was recorded in the Vestland and Innlandet regions, with 16 and 14 deaths respectively. The lowest numbers were registered in Finnmark and Østfold, with two and three fatalities. The data show significant regional differences and the scale of challenges facing Norway's road safety system.
