In the northern part of the Oppland region, snow has covered roads, sidewalks, and rooftops, heralding the upcoming winter season. Although the temperature remains slightly above zero, in many places the white powder has not melted since morning. For drivers, this is the first sign that it's time to prepare for winter road conditions.
In Beitostølen, snow settled already in the early morning hours. In other towns, such as Tonsåsen and Vingromsåsen, snowfall was also visible, and some roads were covered with a thin layer of snow.
Traffic flowed without major disruptions, and drivers exercised caution. On the Lygna plateau, no snow was recorded this time, confirming the high variability of local weather conditions.

Is This the Start of Winter?
Meteorologists point out that although snow has appeared relatively early, it does not yet mean the permanent arrival of winter. Temperatures in the region may rise again in the coming days, and the white powder may disappear from the ground.
In the past, similar snow episodes have occurred in October, but they did not last long. Observations, however, indicate that in higher mountain areas, the snow cover may persist longer, which is good news for skiing enthusiasts.

Remember Winter Tires
Local authorities remind drivers of the obligation to adjust speed to road conditions and the need to switch to winter tires in the coming weeks. In Beitostølen, snow removal has already begun on main streets to ensure the safety of residents and tourists.
Most roads remain passable, but in mountainous areas it may be slippery, especially at night. In several places on routes towards Dokka, a thin layer of ice has been observed.
