In March, 17,685 new passenger cars were registered. This is an increase of 32.9 percent year-on-year. The share of electric cars reached 98.4 percent. This is the highest result in the history of monthly measurements. Sales of combustion cars have dropped to a marginal level.
The new car market is accelerating
Since the beginning of the year, 27,175 new passenger cars have been registered. This is 13.9 percent less than a year earlier. The share of electric cars is 97.9 percent. Only 558 vehicles were not electric. A year earlier, there were 2,606.
In March, 22 petrol cars and 126 diesels were registered. This is an exceptionally low number. Tesla dominated the market, accounting for 34.8 percent of all registrations in March. At the same time, the presence of Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, XPeng, and Zeekr is growing.

Electrification covers more segments
In the van market, 2,200 vehicles were registered. This is a decrease of 26.7 percent year-on-year. The share of electric vehicles was 51.6 percent. Diesel accounted for 46 percent. Since the beginning of the year, the share of electric vehicles in this segment is 52.6 percent.
In the truck segment, 383 vehicles were registered. This is a decrease of 17.3 percent year-on-year. The share of electric vehicles increased to 22.2 percent. Diesel still dominates with 68.9 percent. In the entire first quarter, the share of electric vehicles increased to 22.9 percent.

Changes are also visible in the used car market. In March, 45,325 ownership changes of passenger cars were recorded, 9.4 percent more than a year earlier. The share of electric vehicles increased to 32.2 percent. At the same time, the structure of the entire fleet remains different. About 70 percent of cars in Norway still have combustion engines. In the case of vans and trucks, diesel dominance is even greater.
