The Kråkenes lighthouse station which was built in 1906 is situated on the north-western tip of the island of Vågsøya, even further west than Stad in Norway. Of all the lighthouses in the country this is the one which is most exposed to the elements. It also serves as a meteorological station. It is not uncommon to report of wind forces exceeding the hurricane level which is the highest point instruments can measure. The lighthouse is located 42 metres above sea level, but the waves may even reach this high as you will see in this movie.
When the weather is stormy it is a tremendous experience to stand at a safe distance from the foaming waves studying the frenzied ocean.
There are also accommodation for rent; three rooms apartment at the top of the lighthouse with own bathroom and little kitchen and the storm house is open from mars until October 70 m from the lighthouse has 5 double rooms. Also a SlowTur® conception which provides overnight accommodation where time goes slowly, where you can receive a peaceful relaxation massage, where you can devote yourself to the beauty of nature, where your creativity can rise up and where you can experience life again!
