Avinor summarizes 2025 as a period of solid passenger traffic growth. The main drivers were international connections and a clear increase in interest in Norway during the winter.
Data published by Avinor shows a further rebound in air traffic. In December, the number of passengers at Norwegian airports increased by 3.8 percent year-on-year. International travel grew the fastest. At the same time, domestic traffic also saw an increase.

International traffic drives statistics up

In December 2025, international traffic increased by 5.2 percent compared to the same month the previous year. Domestic traffic rose by 2.6 percent. The number of flight operations was 7 percent higher than in December 2024. Throughout 2025, the number of takeoffs and landings increased by 2 percent.

Avinor points to the growing interest in Norway as a winter destination. Airlines and foreign tour operators are expanding their offerings based on winter attractions. The data also suggests that Norwegians themselves traveled intensively during the pre-Christmas period. This trend was visible at most airports.

Northern airports drive growth

The strongest increases were recorded at airports in the northern part of the country. Tromsø saw a 13 percent rise in passenger numbers, and international traffic there increased by 21 percent. In December, the airport was the third largest in the country, after Oslo and Bergen.

Bodø Airport increased its traffic by 10 percent, and Evenes by 12 percent. Avinor emphasizes that the north is strengthening its position in the competition for international tourists. The growth came during a period of intense competition between winter destinations in Europe.
Throughout 2025, around 53 million passengers passed through Avinor airports, an increase of 3 percent compared to 2024. This is still less than the record year 2019, when 54 million travelers were served. At the same time, Avinor launched 22 new routes and attracted two new airlines. Meanwhile, the number of drone operations is growing rapidly, increasing by 30 percent year-on-year in 2025.
