A Norstat survey for Frende Forsikring shows a decline in interest in traveling outside Norway. Only 8 percent declare they will travel abroad for Easter. 14 percent are afraid to travel. Companies are recording more cancellations than usual. The background is the situation following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.
More cancellations, but no guarantee of a refund
The insurer points to an increase in the number of cancellations. Clients are cancelling their trips more often. This does not mean an automatic refund. The recommendations of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are decisive. The timing of the trip purchase also matters.
If official warnings are in place and the trip was purchased earlier, the policy may apply. If there are no warnings, insurance does not cover cancellations due to concerns. A refund is granted if the organizer cancels the trip. Experts recommend checking the terms before cancelling. In the case of layovers in regions with warnings, it is worth contacting the airline.

Spain still leads, changes in destinations
Claims data show that Spain remains the most popular destination. It accounts for nearly 40 percent of claims during the Easter period. Next are Thailand and Turkey, each with 7.1 percent. Italy and the USA are also among the top destinations. The ranking is based on data from Falck Global Assistance.
In 2024, Spain's share was 37 percent. Thailand had 5.6 percent, and Turkey 4.8 percent. Interest in trips to Thailand, Turkey, and Italy increased. Interest in trips to the USA decreased. In 2025, Norwegians reported nearly 410,000 travel-related claims. Their value exceeded 3 billion.

Operators and insurers are preparing for possible further changes in tourist traffic. A further decline in trips to the USA is expected. Difficulties may also affect routes with layovers in the Middle East.
