Data from the Central Statistical Bureau (SSB) shows a clear drop in average prices at stations. Petrol was 17.79% cheaper in April compared to March 2026. Diesel prices fell by 5.01%. However, NAF emphasizes that prices at the pumps are still fluctuating.
Petrol almost 18% cheaper. New data on fuel prices
The average price of 95 petrol in April was 19.32 NOK per litre. In March, it was 23.50 NOK. The difference was 4.18 NOK per litre. NAF links the change to the temporary exemption from the road fee. "We believe that the entire reduction in fees must benefit consumers," says Ingunn Handagard, NAF spokesperson. "Prices at petrol stations are still fluctuating, so it’s worth keeping an eye on prices in your area and refuelling when it’s cheapest."
For diesel, the average price dropped from 24.54 NOK to 23.31 NOK per litre. That’s a reduction of 1.23 NOK. The exemption from the fee corresponds to 2.85 NOK per litre of diesel. For petrol, it’s 4.41 NOK per litre, including VAT.

Diesel to be cheaper from May. NAF awaits more data
From May 1, diesel is subject to an additional CO2 fee reduction. The reduction amounts to 1.33 NOK per litre. NAF expects this should also be visible at the stations. Full data will not be available until June. "We expect the authorities to closely monitor the situation and consider extending tax reliefs if the situation in the Middle East is not resolved," Handagard sums up.
The temporary measures are in effect until September 1, thus covering the summer travel period. However, NAF points out the uncertainty related to oil prices in the autumn.
Drivers still have to expect price differences between stations. NAF recommends checking local rates and refuelling when fuel is cheapest. The next SSB publication will show whether the May diesel relief has translated into pump prices.
