Strong winds and heavy snowfall are paralyzing transport in southern and western Norway. Flights have been canceled, airport operations suspended, and roads and rail sections closed.
On the morning of Monday, January 12, weather conditions in Vestlandet were very difficult. The biggest problems affect aviation, shipping, and road traffic. Numerous weather warnings are in effect. Authorities report further disruptions throughout the day.

Strong Winds Hit Air Transport

At Stavanger Sola Airport, all air traffic was completely halted. Around 9:00 AM, no planes were taking off or landing. The cause was strong winds and problems with de-icing aircraft. Avinor reports gusts up to 100 km/h in the Stavanger area.

Cancellations and delays also affect Bergen Flesland Airport. Both domestic and international flights have been canceled. Problems are also occurring in Sogndal and Florø. SAS stated that the safety of passengers and crews remains a priority, and travelers are being informed directly about any changes.
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute warns of up to 40 cm of snowfall in the Agder region on Monday and overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Snow, Closed Roads, and Warnings

Large parts of the country are under weather warnings. In Agder, an orange alert is in effect due to heavy snowfall. Locally, up to 40 cm of snow may fall. Meteorologists also warn of wind gusts up to 140 km/h.

Several mountain passes have been closed, including rv. 13 Vikafjellet and fv. 50 Hol–Aurland. On the E134 Haukelifjell and rv. 7 Hardangervidda, convoy driving has been introduced. Problems are also being reported on bridges, including Hardangerbrua and Sotrabrua. Some ferry crossings in Vestlandet have been suspended.
Strong winds are expected to persist until the afternoon, and intensify again in the evening. Road, airport, and power grid operators have raised their alert levels. BKK reports increased vigilance due to the risk of power line damage. Authorities urge people to follow announcements and adjust travel plans to current conditions.
