The trial of six teenagers has begun in Fredrikstad, a year after a serious accident in which they now stand before the court for an incident involving a borrowed car driven by a 16-year-old under the influence of alcohol. According to the indictment, the vehicle was traveling at 200 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, and after losing control, it struck stone elements at a roundabout.
The trial, which began on September 29, concerns an incident from 2024. According to the indictment, on Rolvsøyveien in Fredrikstad, a car with six teenagers accelerated to 200 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The driver lost control while entering a roundabout. The vehicle hit a large stone support weighing several hundred kilograms, and after the collision, lost its tires and rims.

At the moment of impact, one of the teenagers was lying unsecured in the trunk and suffered a broken spine and dental injuries. Another passenger in the back seat sustained a skull fracture, and the driver and other passengers were also injured.

The perpetrators recorded everything

The prosecution points out that a recording of the drive, made by one of the boys, will be presented to the court as key evidence. According to the indictment, conversations in the car confirm that the teenagers encouraged each other to drive recklessly. Phrases such as "Are you ready, guys?", "Go", and "250" can be heard. A test showed the driver had a blood alcohol level of 0.77 per mille just over an hour after the incident.

The list of charges includes causing serious injuries, dangerous and irresponsible driving, driving under the influence, without a license, speeding, and improper conduct after the accident. The minor partially admits guilt. He disputes the charge of causing significant bodily harm and the claim that he did not behave properly after the incident, including in terms of contacting the police.

The prosecutor is demanding a suspended sentence of one year and four months in prison for the driver. He would also lose his driving privileges for life. The defense argues that the proposal is too harsh.

The justice system leaves no illusions

The police, represented by prosecutor Anders Johansen, emphasize that no one died only due to favorable circumstances, and describe the driving as irresponsible and dangerous, causing serious damage to the vehicle and among the passengers. The driver's lawyer, attorney Torgeir Røinås Pedersen, says his client is afraid of the trial but wants to bring the case to a close and resolve all issues.

He also points out that a year has passed since the incident and criticizes the lengthy proceedings, highlighting the psychological burden on the minors. The hearing is taking place during the autumn break, with three days scheduled at the district court in Fredrikstad.
