Meteorologists are forecasting heavy rainfall and an increased risk of landslides and flooding along Norway’s southern and eastern coasts. In response to the worsening weather conditions, local authorities have convened an emergency crisis meeting. Warnings also extend to northern regions, where weather changes and difficult road conditions are expected.
A yellow warning for heavy rainfall is in effect for the Østlandet and Sørlandet regions, while selected municipalities such as Sør-Aurdal, Etnedal, Nordre Land, and Søndre Land have issued an orange alert due to the risk of landslides and flooding. In Nordre Land itself, local authorities have confirmed that technical preventive measures are being taken, including ensuring drainage systems remain clear.

It is forecasted that some areas may receive between 50 and 70 mm of rain within 24 hours, which could lead to water accumulation on roads and aquaplaning. Road services advise cautious driving and checking the condition of ditches and drains.

Deteriorating Weather Conditions Approaching Norway

According to information provided by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, low pressure over the northwestern part of the country is bringing in moist and mild air, which drives rainfall and increases windy conditions. In the northern region, a change in weather is also forecasted, which may cause icing and difficult road conditions.

Forecasts indicate that the peak of rainfall may occur on Friday, when the most intense precipitation is expected in parts of Østlandet and Sørlandet, and strong winds in Nordvestlandet. As a result, local authorities emphasize the need to monitor the weather situation and prepare for possible consequences.

Authorities Urge Caution

The Innlandet administration has organized a crisis meeting to coordinate actions to protect against the effects of the weather. The main focus is on securing against landslides, flooding, and increased water flow in small and medium-sized watercourses.

The situation will be monitored continuously, and updates will be provided as the weather develops. Both residents and drivers are asked to follow meteorological information and adjust their travel and activity plans accordingly.
