Emma and Noah were the most frequently given names in Norway in 2025. Both returned to the top spot after being in second place the previous year.
The ranking by the Central Bureau of Statistics (SSB) includes names given to newborns in 2025. The list also shows regional changes and long-term trends. Officials published the report on January 28, 2026.
Emma and Noah Top the Rankings
Emma led among girls' names. In 2025, 386 children were given this name, an increase of seven compared to the previous year. For five consecutive years, the name ranked second. Now, it has returned to the top of the list.
Among boys, Noah took first place. Last year, 477 children received this name, compared to 402 the year before. This is the second time Noah has topped the rankings in the 21st century, previously leading in 2021.

Comebacks, New Entries, and Changes Among Norwegian Names
The biggest comeback was the name Astrid. After an 80-year break, it returned to the top ten, ranking 10th in 2025. Previously, it was consistently on the list from 1896 to 1945.
Among girls' names, Frida is also a newcomer. It was given to 337 children, 74 more than the previous year, earning it 7th place. For boys, new entries in the TOP 10 are Oskar, Elias, and Isak, which had previously appeared among the leaders.

The ranking also shows regional differences. Despite being number one nationwide, Noah did not make the top ten in Oslo and Buskerud. Emma was the leader in only four out of 15 regions. In Nordland, the top names were Ulrik and Aurora, which rank lower on the national level.
