Norwegian customs authorities seized around 200 kg of marijuana in an air shipment at Gardermoen Airport. This is one of the largest such seizures in the postal stream.
The smuggling was detected by officers from the Norwegian Customs Service (Tolletaten) in the air cargo section. The drugs were found in eight cartons shipped from the USA. The package was addressed to a company in Oslo. The contents were declared as kitchen utensils.
Shipment from the USA Under Customs Scrutiny
The discovery took place in August 2025. Officers noticed several irregularities and decided to thoroughly inspect the packages. During the inspection, they found about 200 kg of marijuana. The substance was divided into eight packages.
No attempt was made to conceal the drugs. According to Tolletaten, this indicates a growing willingness among smugglers to take risks. Authorities are also observing increasingly large quantities in single shipments, suggesting a more professional nature of smuggling.

Police Operation and Arrests
After the shipment was discovered, Tolletaten contacted the police. A controlled delivery was arranged. The marijuana was replaced with legal goods, and the package was sent to the indicated address.
The goods were later transported to another location, where the police intervened. Several people were arrested during the operation and have been charged. The case is ongoing.
