The biggest star of the Olympic Games was Johannes Klaebo. The Norwegian cross-country skier won every event he participated in. Despite his historic achievements, he cannot count on a cash prize from the Norwegian Olympic Committee.

Six gold medals for Klaebo

The 29-year-old triumphed in both the individual and team sprint. He also won the skiathlon over a distance of 10 km. He claimed gold in the individual 10 km race. He added a victory in the relay.

Klaebo also won the 50 km mass start. Thus, he finished the Olympics with six gold medals. He was the undisputed star of the competition and returns home as a multi-medalist Olympian.

No bonus from the Norwegian Olympic Committee

Despite his impressive results, Klaebo will not receive a financial bonus. The Norwegian Olympic Committee does not provide cash prizes for Olympic medals. Instead, the athlete will receive a cake and a mascot. These rules apply to all representatives.

Multi-medalists, however, receive an annual sports scholarship. According to NOK's head of communications Tore Oevrebo, it amounts to 15,000 euros per year. The amount is fixed and does not depend on the number of medals won. Iceland and Sweden have the same policy.

In Poland, the system is different. An Olympic gold medal means a prize of 500,000 PLN. Silver is valued at 400,000 PLN, and bronze at 300,000 PLN. This year, athletes could also expect prizes in the form of cryptocurrencies and additional bonuses from the Ministry of Sport.
