Artificial intelligence is gaining popularity in Norway. In the 16–79 age group, 54% of people reported using generative AI in the last three months, compared to 36% a year earlier.
According to a survey by Statistics Norway (SSB), the increase in the use of generative AI concerns conversational solutions as well as tools for creating text, graphics, and video content. The 54% figure includes, among others, the use of popular services, and the year-on-year growth rate is 18 percentage points. The data shows differences between genders: 58% of men and 49% of women declared using such tools.

Young people are more eager to use AI

The breakdown of results by age shows the strongest growth in the 35–44 age group. In this group, the share of generative AI users reaches nearly seven out of ten respondents, which means an increase of 30 percentage points year-on-year. In the 45–54 age group, the rate rose from 35% to 56%, and among people aged 16–24, usage remains at about eight out of ten.

Norwegian companies are opening up to AI

In companies, the increase in the use of artificial intelligence has maintained a pace of about 10 percentage points per year since 2023. In 2025, three out of ten enterprises with at least 10 employees declare the use of one or more AI technologies, compared to two out of ten a year earlier and one out of ten two years earlier.

In the largest organizations (over 99 employees), the rate increased from 27% to 58% since 2023.

Who is not implementing artificial intelligence?

When it comes to barriers to implementing AI, competency and regulatory issues dominate. According to declarations, 70% of companies do not yet use artificial intelligence. 77% of them point to a lack of appropriate skills as the main obstacle, up from 69% a year earlier.

Additionally, four out of ten companies not implementing AI cite data protection and privacy. Organization leaders are also concerned about the lack of precise regulations in this area.
