Norwegian authorities have announced the launch of new toll collection points as part of extensive infrastructure projects. The aim is to finance investments that improve safety, capacity, and sustainable development of public transport in several regions of the country.
In the Nord-Jæren region, including Stavanger and Sandnes, the toll collection period has been extended by more than five years. Thanks to this decision, road projects such as the E39 Smiene–Harestad and E39 Figgjo–Ålgård sections will be implemented. However, Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård emphasizes that costs must be closely monitored to avoid further extending the toll collection period.
In Kristiansund, two new toll collection points will be launched on national road rv. 70. Toll collection will begin in 2026 and last up to 15 years. These funds will enable projects aimed at improving conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport, as well as increasing safety on local roads.

Tolls to the rescue of road investments
A new suspension bridge between Tønsberg and the Færder municipality, which will become part of the new land crossing, will also be partially financed by road tolls. This bridge will have four lanes and an additional pedestrian and bicycle path. The investment of over 5 billion NOK will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city center, officials report.

The largest project, although without indicating a new toll point, remains the modernization of the E16 route and the Vossebane railway line between Arna and Stanghelle. The cost of the investment will exceed 41 billion NOK, and the completion of the work is scheduled for 2038.
