Norwegian People's Aid (Norsk Folkehjelp) cautiously welcomes the signing of an agreement that could bring a pause to the near-constant bombardment of the Gaza Strip. In a statement, the organization emphasized that the agreement offers hope for delivering humanitarian aid to people suffering from the dramatic situation.
As Norwegian People's Aid highlights, the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has been almost completely destroyed, and the humanitarian situation is worsening by the hour. Nearly two months ago, a state of famine was declared. The Secretary General of Norwegian People's Aid, Raymond Johansen, points out that the supply of adequate amounts of food and medical aid is now absolutely essential.
The organization's staff and partners remain ready to respond immediately, should conditions allow. They stress that access to the Gaza Strip must be stable, without the risk of airstrikes and military operations.

Helping Palestine, Pressuring Israel
The organization stresses that the first stage of the agreement must only be the beginning of the process. It points out that previous UN resolutions, mediation initiatives, and earlier agreements have not led to lasting peace or a balance of power. In its view, it will be crucial for the international community to enable Palestinians to participate in determining the conditions of their own future.
At the same time, it highlights the need for continued pressure on Israel. According to the organization, such an approach could increase the chances of a long-term solution.
