Cheaper tickets in Oslo. City Council and Ruter announce changes

The price of a monthly ticket in Oslo will be reduced by NOK 50. The change will apply to the standard 30-day adult ticket in the urban zone and will be introduced as part of Ruter's fare update.
The reduction does not affect the validity rules, transfer options, or ticket sales channels, which remain available in the app, on the card, and with selected carriers. The adjustment follows recent fare changes in Oslo, where in previous months the attractiveness of period tickets compared to purchasing multiple single rides was emphasized.

The rules for period tickets remain unchanged: the 30-day ticket is valid from activation until the end of its validity period and covers the metro, trams, buses, and Vy trains in Oslo and Akershus. Transfers are possible within the purchased zones as long as the ticket is valid at the time of boarding. Ruter maintains the discount structure for children, seniors, and students, and indicates approximate thresholds for cost-effectiveness – a 30-day ticket is advantageous for about 30 rides per month.

Ticket prices in Oslo to change

Amid the capital's fare changes, price and zone adjustments are underway in the region, including the phasing out of some solutions that facilitated travel between zones in Akershus. This is especially noticeable for people crossing zone borders on shorter journeys.

Zone 1 in Oslo has received additional price benefits in recent adjustments, while outside it, there have been increases and the elimination of cheaper supplementary tickets. Overall, the direction of changes in Oslo concerns a cheaper monthly ticket for adults and the maintenance of the current rules for using Ruter's offer.
In Oslo, annual fare adjustments traditionally take place in January, when the operator introduces ticket price indexations. Usually, this results in price increases. At the same time, the capital has announced a reduction in the monthly ticket price, which will be implemented by decisions from Ruter and the Oslo City Council. The gradual price change is expected to reach NOK 499 in 2027.
