Christmas 2025 in Norway marks a return to classics and nature. According to Plantasjen's report on holiday trends, Norwegians are increasingly choosing traditional decorations, natural materials, and scents reminiscent of childhood.
The poinsettia, known as the Christmas star, has remained the most popular Christmas flower in Norway for the sixth year in a row. According to the report, 33% of respondents choose it. Its main rival is the amaryllis, which has won 15% of the votes and is gaining new fans every year.

Other bestsellers include the Christmas rose and the indoor spruce. Plantasjen notes that especially young Norwegians aged 18 to 29 choose classic flowers for their authentic character and the memories they evoke.

Which Christmas Tree Do Norwegians Choose? Between Tradition and Convenience

The Christmas tree remains one of the most important elements of the holiday. Eight out of ten people plan to put up a tree at home this year, with 45% opting for an artificial one.

Among those under 30, live trees are more popular, while artificial trees are favored by the 40–60 age group. As Ida Groven from Plantasjen points out, a live tree is associated with the scent of spruce and family memories. Modern artificial trees are becoming increasingly realistic and durable.

Natural Decorations and the Scent of Christmas

This year's Christmas in Norway stands out for its natural decorations and calm elegance. 43% of Norwegians believe that scent is what creates the Christmas atmosphere. Meanwhile, 55% point to the importance of colors.

Spruce branches, moss, oranges, and cloves dominate homes, creating a cozy ambiance. Handmade wreaths have also become popular. 31% of people who value a sustainable lifestyle make their own decorations from natural materials.

The Christmas Wreath in Norway

The Christmas wreath has become a symbol of new trends. It combines tradition with creativity and a personal approach to decoration. Norwegians are eager to hang them not only on doors but also use them as part of table arrangements.

More and more people see holiday preparations as a time for calm and creating family rituals. Christmas 2025 is set to be a time of balance between nostalgia and modernity, nature and elegance.
