Every year since the turn of the century , have the oil production in oil country Norway been falling . This year, is the trend turning writes the newspaper Adresseavisen .
The Norwegian production is expected to reach 1.52 million barrels per day in 2014 , according to figures from the NPD. It is only half of the production in the peak year of 1997, but 50,000 barrels more than the estimate for 2013 . Also in the coming years ,is the oil production expected to increase.
- We have had a period of historically high oil prices, and have seen major investments in the Norwegian continental shelf. In addition, we had a high level of exploration and new discoveries. The petroleum industry is and will be the main industry of Norway in the decades to come , says Petroleum and Energy Minister Tord Lien ( FRP ) .
Total production of oil and gas from the Norwegian continental shelf peaked in 2004. Since then has the gas production continued to increase , but not enough to offset the production decline from old oil elephants as Statfjord , Gullfaks and Oseberg.
- We 're unlikely to return to levels around 2000 , but maybe we manage to increase slightly compared to what we have seen in recent years , says Professor Øystein oil Noreng BI .
New companies like the DNO and Lundin has a lot of credit , he said.
Also in the Barents Sea has major discoveries which mainly contains oil been made. Skrugard, Havis and Gotha may be among the pillars of the Norwegian petroleum era until 2050 , and perhaps even longer.
- Everyone is talking about what Norway will do for a living after the oil. We should rather talk about how we should live together with the oil , says Noreng.
