Lars-Ivar Ødegaard arrived in Hafjell from Bærum the day before. He had planned a family cycling trip, but the conditions turned out to be different than expected. Snow appeared on the trails. In an interview with NRK, he said that instead of cycling, he ended up reading books and ordering pizza.
A White Morning. Guests Were Very Surprised
Pellestova Hotell Hafjell shared videos of the snow on Tuesday morning, July 7th. The footage sparked many reactions. The hotel wrote that while Norway delivers surprises at the world championships, Pellestova delivers snow in July. Guests witnessed a winter view out of season.
Receptionist Tobias Tønnessen told NRK that it was a special situation for tourists. He himself does not remember snow in Hafjell in July. Last year, snow appeared there for a few days in June. This time, the snowfall came even later.
Hafjell is a Treat for Skiers and Cyclists. Some Guests Didn't Want to Come
Tønnessen said that many bike reservations were planned for that day. After the morning snowfall, some people called to cancel them. Not everyone gave up on activities, though. The receptionist noted that people ride bikes in all kinds of conditions.
Ødegaard admitted that he had previously skied in Hafjell. After the snowy morning, he joked that maybe that's what he should have done this time. However, his family had come with a different plan. Instead of a cycling route, they ended up spending time indoors.
The hotel reported that despite the surprise, most guests reacted positively to the snow. For tourists, it was a July stay with a view that is usually expected in a different season.
