The FINN.no portal has prepared a wage map during salary negotiations. The data is intended to help people who are changing jobs or preparing for a raise discussion. The comparison covers all types of positions and regions from Sørlandet to Finnmark. The median represents the middle value in an ordered set of salaries.
Oslo and Rogaland have the highest salaries
The highest median salary was recorded in Oslo. It is NOK 720,000 per year. Rogaland comes second, where the median is NOK 690,000 per year.
The lowest salary levels are in Østlandet (outside Oslo) and Innlandet. In both regions, the median is about NOK 627,000 per year. The difference between the highest and lowest level is NOK 94,000, which corresponds to 15 percent annually.
Region matters more in some professions
FINN.no points out that the impact of the workplace depends on the industry. In professions regulated by wage agreements, the differences are smaller. Nurses are an example. The base salary in Tromsø is similar to that in Oslo.
Larger differences are seen in market-dependent professions. This applies to consulting, finance, and IT. In these areas, the differences can reach up to 30 percent. According to FINN.no, in more market-oriented regions, the wage gap is greater, while in regions with a large public sector, it is smaller.
Rogaland stands out especially in technical professions. FINN.no links this to the strong position of the oil industry in the region. For engineers and electricians, salaries are higher there than in many other parts of the country. The median salary for electricians in Rogaland is NOK 50,000 higher than in Oslo. The difference between Oslo and the Stor-Oslo area is NOK 75,000, or 10 percent.
According to FINN.no, in regulated professions, salaries remain more balanced regardless of the region. In market-driven professions, the choice of place of residence can have a direct impact on salary levels.
