The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) reports that soon the paving of approximately 700 km of roads will begin in the country of fjords. This asphalt season, a total of 540,000 tons of material will be laid. This is an annual procedure, among other things, to repair road damage and deterioration.
The start of the seasonal road paving in Norway varies depending on local conditions, but usually occurs right after Easter when the chances of frost-related work disruptions are minimal. This year, Statens vegvesen plans to lay asphalt for about 1.4 billion kroner. The work is carried out under 24 contracts signed with five different contractors.

Drive carefully
Most asphalt work is done at night when traffic is at its lowest. Nevertheless, dangerous road situations occur every year due to impatient drivers performing dangerous overtaking maneuvers and practicing aggressive driving in construction areas.
Statens vegvesen asks road users to exercise caution and consider the needs of those working on the paving.
