A cold wave is approaching all of Norway. Forecasters predict temperatures may drop as low as minus 30 degrees. Many regions will also experience heavy snowfall, which could make road conditions difficult. Meteorologists urge caution.
After an exceptionally mild start to November, Norway is entering a period of severe frost. According to meteorologist Marek Ratajczak, only the southernmost stretches of the coast can expect occasional temperatures above zero.

Elsewhere in the country, subzero temperatures will prevail. The coldest areas will be in the interior of Finnmark, Troms, and the mountain valleys of Østlandet. In these regions, authorities expect temperatures to drop as low as minus 30 degrees.

Heavy snowfall in the north and west

The cold will be accompanied by heavy snowfall, especially in the northern and western parts of the country. From November 17, a yellow warning is in effect for Møre og Romsdal and Trøndelag, where 15 to 30 cm of snow may fall within a day.

Meteorologists indicate that even more snow may fall in higher elevations and inland regions. On the coast, a mix of rain and snow is expected. In northern Norway, further snowstorms are anticipated, coming from the north.

Difficult road conditions

Winter weather is also affecting road conditions. Drivers are reporting numerous difficulties, and police have reported a series of incidents caused by slippery surfaces. One such incident occurred on the E136 route, where a driver ended up in a water reservoir after skidding off the road.

Authorities emphasize that even light snowfall combined with previous moisture can lead to icy conditions. They urge caution and advise adjusting speed to the prevailing conditions.

Possible warming over the weekend

Forecasts for the coming days predict a slight warming, which will be most noticeable in southern Norway. The weekend may bring higher temperatures, although it still won't be typical for the warmer months.

Next week, the situation remains uncertain. Meteorologists are monitoring the possibility of a return of the frost. Despite the brief warming, forecasters emphasize that the current temperature drops are normal for the second half of November.
