The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) is launching a national health survey. They want to find out what life is really like for people living in Norway. FHI is particularly interested in the participation of immigrants, including the Polish community. Note – participation is only possible by invitation.
FHI (Folkehelseinstituttet) is sending 100,000 SMS messages to randomly selected people over the age of 18 across Norway. The main goal of the National Public Health Survey is to get a better picture of the population's health and the factors affecting it.

Check your phone – are you among the selected?

Only those who have received a direct SMS invitation from FHI can participate in the survey.
FHI has randomly selected 100,000 people. If you did not receive an SMS, it means you are not taking part in the survey this time. You do not need to call or sign up anywhere. However, if you did receive a message from FHI – do not ignore it! Your participation is very important.

Why does FHI care about the voices of Poles?

For the survey results to be reliable and reflect the true picture of society, everyone must participate – both Norwegians and immigrants.

To ensure the data covers all of Norway, all groups must be represented, including people with migration experience.~emphasizes Øystein Vedaa, project manager at FHI.

If immigrants do not participate, FHI will not have a complete picture of the health challenges we face. This is a chance to show our habits, needs, and problems. Thanks to this, national advice and actions can be better planned.

What will they ask about?

The survey concerns everyday life. The study (conducted on this scale for the first time since the pilot in 2020) collects information not available in national registers.
Questions cover topics such as:
  • Physical and mental health,
  • Quality of sleep,
  • Habits and lifestyle.

Participants' answers will help us better understand the health and habits of the population and will be used to improve public health. Research based on these answers is an important part of our work.~says Guri Rørtveit, director of FHI.

Thanks to the annual repetition of the survey, FHI can track trends and assess the consequences of major events, such as the pandemic.

Survey available in Polish

Good news for those who are not confident in Norwegian. The survey is available in several languages, including Polish and Ukrainian. This means the language barrier is not an obstacle to participation.

What did previous studies show?

In cooperation with the city of Oslo, FHI conducted a similar survey last year, focusing on the immigrant population. The results showed that the picture is complex and varies depending on the country of origin.

We noticed that in some groups, poorer health, mental health problems, and loneliness were reported more often. There were also issues with dental health and access to dental care. At the same time, in many immigrant groups, alcohol consumption was lower.~explains Øystein Vedaa, Head of Department at FHI.

The new national survey will allow us to check whether similar patterns occur across the country.

Summary: Did you get an SMS? Take action!

If you received an SMS invitation from FHI, take a moment to complete the survey. This is your contribution to the development of the health system in the country where you live.
FHI assures that all responses are treated confidentially and in accordance with strict privacy regulations. No one will be able to identify individual participants in the survey results.
