Information about the deceased woman's nationality and age was provided to TV 2 by police representative Svein Maude. The group had travelled to Narvik to dive at the wreck of the DS "Odin". The Norwegian Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received a report of a serious accident on Wednesday, 30 September, at 12:37 p.m. One person died, while another was taken to the University Hospital of North Norway in Tromsø.

Problems During the Dive

According to an account given to the police by the surviving diver, the expedition participants were diving in pairs. After around 20 minutes at the wreck, one person began experiencing difficulties. The two divers in that pair quickly surfaced. They were then transported ashore, where they received assistance. The woman's life could not be saved. The remaining four divers ended their dive and, according to the police, were not injured.

Cause of the Accident Remains Unknown

According to information provided to TV 2 on 7 October, the police were still awaiting a preliminary autopsy report and the results of tests on the diving equipment. At this stage, investigators were unable to identify a specific cause of the tragedy. The police interviewed the surviving participants of the expedition and representatives of the company organising the dive. The organiser, Underwater Narvik, stated that the participants had used their own equipment. According to a company representative, emergency services were notified immediately after the accident and first aid was started. The company declared that it would not speculate about the causes of the incident until the matter had been clarified. The surviving expedition participants were offered crisis support by the municipality of Narvik. According to the police, they were deeply shaken by the tragedy. The MojaNorwegia editorial team extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Our thoughts are also with the expedition participants and everyone affected by this tragedy. Source: TV 2, information published on 7 October 2026.
