Poland and Norway have signed a memorandum to deepen their defense cooperation, which will serve as the basis for further joint actions. The agreement covers, among other things, interoperability of armed forces, joint training, and the exchange of experience in air defense and cybersecurity. At the same time, it was announced that starting in October, Norwegian F-35 fighter jets will operate from a military base in Poland.
During a meeting at the Ministry of National Defense headquarters (September 29), Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik and Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening strategic and operational coordination between Poland and Norway. The agreement covers all levels of defense—political, strategic, operational, and tactical.
It includes, among other things, increased interoperability, coordinated use of resources, and closer dialogue on shared threats. Official statements also emphasized that this cooperation is significant in the context of solidarity within NATO.

Norwegian Jets in Poland
The signing of the memorandum coincided with the planned deployment of Norwegian F-35 fighter jets in Poland. The aircraft are to be stationed at the Krzesiny base near Poznań starting in October 2025. The agreement also provides for cooperation in areas such as special forces, exchange of experience in crisis management, and cybersecurity.
The memorandum includes support for the defense industries of both countries and the development of drone capabilities. Cooperation in strategic and operational intelligence is also planned.

Together Against Airborne Threats
The Norwegian F-35 mission in Poland will be the second such operation in 2025—the first lasted from January to summer. The joint efforts aim to strengthen the protection of Polish and regional airspace and better coordinate responses to airspace violations.
Official statements noted that cooperation between Poland and Norway addresses growing threats related to illegal drone flights over border areas. The importance of military exercises and the exchange of experience was also emphasized, as these are expected to increase flexibility in responding to hybrid threats.
