The organization Norsk Folkehjelp shared the information in a brief press release and via NRK. Secretary General Raymond Johansen stated that the dead and injured were members of a Ukrainian organization cooperating with Norsk Folkehjelp. He added that the exact course of events is still being determined.

Attack on Norwegian Project: Dead and Injured Reported

The Russians struck one of the demining projects in Novopetrivka. Johansen told NRK that two people were killed and several others were injured. The injured were taken to hospital. The project was being conducted near Kryvyi Rih.

According to Johansen, the deminers were killed and injured during a direct confrontation with Russian soldiers. The Secretary General added that demining workers usually wear clothing clearly indicating their affiliation with Norsk Folkehjelp. The organization employs over 450 people in Ukraine. They are now investigating what exactly happened at the site.

Norway's Response to Russian Attack: Aid for the Injured

Johansen stated that the organization is focusing on the families of the victims and those injured. He also said that efforts are underway to care for the wounded and other employees in Ukraine. He pointed out that aid and humanitarian work during wartime involves significant risk. He himself was in Kyiv a few weeks earlier.

The attack was condemned by Minister of Development Åsmund Aukrust from the Labour Party. He stated that attacks on humanitarian demining organizations, which protect civilians and save lives, are completely unacceptable. He also described them as violations of the fundamental principles of international law. He added that Norsk Folkehjelp is doing important and risky work in Ukraine, removing mines and providing humanitarian aid.
In the autumn of 2025, there was also an attack on deminers from the Danish Refugee Council (Dansk Flyktninghjelp) in Ukraine. A rocket struck in the Chernihiv region, in the north of the country. Two people were killed and three were injured.
