Norwegian Customs Officers in Action. They Seized a Shipment Worth 50 Million NOK

In July 2025, the Norwegian Customs Service (Tolletaten) intercepted 497 kg of hashish hidden in a truck trailer crossing the border at Svinesund. This is the largest single drug seizure in Norway in eight years. According to authorities, this amount corresponds to two million user doses, with a total market value of around 50 million NOK.

The drugs were hidden among legal goods, which included toilet paper and kitchen towels. A scanner and a drug detection dog were used, allowing officers to uncover irregularities in the shipment.

According to acting director of Tolletaten, Marianne Fålun, this method of hiding contraband is well known to customs officers. She pointed out that the scale of this particular case indicates a high level of organization behind the operation.

Drugs Entering Norway from Sweden

According to Tolletaten, this is the largest hashish seizure since 2017, when three kilograms more were confiscated. Customs authorities note that large quantities of drugs are often smuggled overland through Sweden, and similar attempts are detected regularly.

Authorities emphasize that such actions deal a significant blow to criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking. At the same time, they remind the public of the importance of border controls in limiting the influx of illegal substances into the country.

Will Norway Break Up the Drug Mafia?

Tolletaten announces continued cooperation with the police and other institutions to thoroughly investigate the case. Investigators will analyze the entire transport route and the logistics chain that enabled the smuggling.

If more participants in the operation are identified, the investigation may be extended to the international level. This operation could lead to the exposure of further smuggling cases in the coming months.
