According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, positive temperatures in December are the norm this year in both cities. This information was confirmed by on-duty meteorologist Geir Otta Fagerlid in an interview with NTB.

The data comes from the Blindern meteorological station in Oslo and Florida in Bergen. These locations recorded the warmest start to December since measurements began.

Unusual Conditions in the North of the Country

It is also unusually warm in northern Norway. Forecasts indicated heavy rainfall and strong winds. Meteorologists sometimes refer to this weather pattern as a stormy Christmas.

In several regions of northern Norway, avalanche danger reached the red level during the holiday period. The cause is mild temperatures combined with heavy rainfall.

An atmospheric river is lingering over the region and is expected to persist until the evening of the first day of Christmas. A similar phenomenon was last recorded there in March 2022.

Oslo Close to Record, Bergen Awaits Weather Change

Oslo still has a chance to set a new warmth record for the entire month of December. The current record dates back to 2006, when the average temperature was 2.4 degrees.

In 2025, the average so far is 4 degrees. In Bergen, the rest of the month may bring a change, as forecasts indicate a decrease in the influx of warm air.
