Peab responsible for the entire project
The contract signed by Senja municipality and Peab is a total enterprise agreement. This means the contractor is responsible not only for the construction itself, but also for design and coordination of all sectors involved in the investment.
The contract value is NOK 132 million excluding VAT. According to the municipality, the investment will complete the last and most important stage of creating a modern school building in Gryllefjord.
School for about 45 students
The new facility will be prepared for about 45 students. Inside, there will be:
- classrooms,
- rooms for specialist activities,
- an administrative area,
- a school library,
- a gym.
The area around the school will also be developed. The gym is intended to serve not only students, but also the residents of Gryllefjord. Therefore, the investment is considered an important facility for the entire community, not just a school building.
The building must withstand the coastal climate
The project must meet high standards for energy consumption, acoustics, and accessibility for people with disabilities. Materials will be selected with the coastal climate of Gryllefjord in mind.
In this part of Norway, buildings are exposed to strong winds, moisture, and salinity. The proper choice of facade, insulation, and structural elements is therefore crucial for the future maintenance costs of the school.
Low-emission machines and waste sorting
Peab has also committed to minimizing the environmental impact of construction. Low-emission machines will be used during the works. The contractor also promises efficient use of materials and a high level of construction waste sorting.
The company has previously built school facilities in the region, including a new school in Sørreisa. Representatives of Senja municipality emphasize that the contractor's experience in similar projects was an important factor in selecting the offer.
So far, no information has been provided regarding potential staff recruitment or the companies that will be contracted as subcontractors.
