Inflation in Norway has slowed down. These prices had the biggest impact on the result
The pace of price growth in Norway has weakened again. In June 2026, the consumer price index rose by 2.7 percent year-on-year, which is 0.4 percentage points less than in May. The biggest impact came from food and electronics prices.
World Cup-related promotions had a strong impact on inflation.

The consumer price index (CPI) fell by 0.2 percent in June compared to May. Statistics Norway (SSB) reported that despite the monthly decline, the price level was 2.7 percent higher than a year earlier. Core inflation also weakened. The CPI-JAE index, which excludes tax changes and energy prices, increased by 2.7 percent year-on-year.
Electronics became much cheaper. Promotions influenced inflation data
The prices of IT and communication equipment fell by 8.5 percent from May to June. A year earlier, the decrease in the same period was only 0.4 percent. Such a large difference limited the annual CPI growth rate. SSB points out that the June drop in electronics prices was unusually high.
According to Espen Kristiansen, section manager at SSB, the change may have been related to numerous promotional campaigns conducted during the football World Cup. The reductions affected a category that clearly influenced the entire index. The effect was already visible in the monthly data. Electronics became one of the main factors slowing inflation.

Food prices rose more slowly. Airfares continued to increase
Food prices rose by 0.3 percent in June compared to May. In the same period in 2025, the increase was 1.4 percent. This year's change was therefore much weaker. This also limited the annual dynamics of consumer prices.
Passenger air transport prices increased by 11.2 percent over the month. Nevertheless, this category also contributed to the weakening of annual inflation, as the increases were even greater a year earlier. The KPI-JAE index reduced its annual growth rate by 0.7 percentage points. Such a large monthly drop in core inflation has not been recorded since June 2024.
SSB published the first version of the data on July 10, but due to technical problems, it included only selected values. A more complete set, with additional indicators and charts, was made available on July 15. The update did not change the main picture of June's price trends.
