Honorary Consulate in Bergen: What Changes for Poles in Vestland

Assistance in contacts with Polish institutions and support for the local Polish community are the tasks of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Bergen, officially opened on 28 October. The office covers the entire Vestland region. However, its opening does not mean that a permanent passport service point has been launched.

The consul is 39-year-old Mats Elias Meguenni, a Norwegian doctor who studied at the Jagiellonian University and speaks Polish. Polish Ambassador Małgorzata Kosiura-Kaźmierska introduced him as the youngest Polish honorary consul in the world.

What you can contact the consul about

An honorary consul supports Polish consular services in assisting citizens and protecting their rights. They are also expected to maintain contact with the Polish community and develop cooperation between Poland and Norway. You can contact the office to request support in dealing with Polish institutions. It is also a point of contact for Polish community organisations planning educational or cultural activities, as well as for entrepreneurs interested in cooperation between the two countries. For Vestland residents, this means an opportunity to speak in person, in Polish, with a representative familiar with the local environment. However, one should not assume that the consul will handle every administrative matter. Before visiting, it is best to describe the issue by phone or email and determine what assistance the office can provide.

A passport in Bergen requires a separate appointment session

The honorary consul does not issue passports, including temporary ones. Passport matters in Norway are still handled by the Consular and Polish Diaspora Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Oslo. However, you can submit an application closer to home during appointment sessions organised by the embassy. For 26 and 27 October 2026, before the office's official opening, the embassy scheduled such a session at the address of the new consulate in Bergen. Registration was conducted separately, and the number of places was limited. The consulate's address itself therefore does not mean that you can arrive with an application on any day. You need to check the announced appointment date and book a visit. As of 29 October, we found no announcement of another date in Bergen. Registration for passport appointments is handled through the e-Konsulat system. When registering for the Bergen session, the embassy advised first selecting Norway and Oslo, then passport matters and the place of visit: Bergen.

Continue to check official matters in Oslo

Appointments for passport and legal matters in Oslo are booked through e-Konsulat. For citizenship matters, the Polish Card and visas, the embassy provides the following email contact: oslo.konsul@msz.gov.pl. The new honorary office does not change these rules. Before preparing documents or travelling, check the admission rules and contact details for the consular section in Oslo.
