EVs have crossed an important milestone. New data from the Norwegian market

For the first time, Vestland has a higher share of electric cars in used car listings than Oslo. In July 2026, the figure was 56 percent, while in the capital it was 51 percent. Data from the classifieds site FINN also shows a rapid increase in the share of EVs in northern Norway.

The used car market in Norway is changing rapidly. FINN data shows that a high share of electric cars is no longer characteristic only of Oslo and its immediate surroundings. Differences between regions are still visible. At the same time, several counties with different geography and population structures are already achieving similar results.

Vestland ahead of Oslo. The capital region surpasses half

In Vestland, electric cars accounted for 56 percent of all published used car listings in July. In Oslo, their share at the same time was 51 percent, meaning Vestland has clearly surpassed the capital for the first time, without a shared car market and strong commuter flows. A high result was also recorded in Akershus, where EVs made up 53 percent of offers.

FINN points out, however, that Oslo and Akershus can be treated as a single automotive market region, as many Akershus residents commute to work in the capital. In total, the share of electric cars in listings from these two counties was 52 percent in July 2026. A year earlier, it was 44 percent. Oslo and Akershus also had the highest volume of used EV listings in the country. In July alone, more than 4,300 were published.

Troms is growing the fastest. The north is closing the gap

The biggest change over the year was recorded in Troms. The share of electric cars in listings increased from 36 percent in July 2025 to 48 percent in July 2026. This means a rise of 12 percentage points. No other county saw a greater increase during this period.

FINN market expert Terje Dahlgren points out that it was previously often assumed that low temperatures and long distances limited interest in electric cars in northern Norway. According to him, data from Troms shows that this assumption is no longer confirmed in the current structure of listings. The changes also affect more regions. Several counties with different geography and demographics are now at a similar level of electric car share.
The data covers listings published on the FINN used car market and compares, among other things, July 2025 and July 2026. It also includes monthly changes from January to July 2026. The statistics show the number and structure of listings, not confirmed sales transactions.
