After a possible drone sighting in the no-fly zone near Bardufoss Airport, a Norwegian flight was diverted. Runway operations were temporarily suspended. That same evening, reports also came from Brønnøysund, where a Widerøe aircraft canceled a stopover.
An object described as a drone was observed at Bardufoss Airport, located within the no-fly zone. This directly impacted airport operations, resulting in the diversion of a Norwegian flight and the temporary suspension of selected operations. Operational decisions were made based on control tower communications and applicable safety procedures. The airport operator confirmed a breach of regulations near the airport.

The incident occurred on the evening of September 28, with the Norwegian aircraft scheduled to land at night. As part of standard procedure, the police were notified.

Danger in Norwegian Skies?

The airport operator indicated that after confirming the presence of an object in the restricted zone, immediate measures were implemented to limit traffic, including suspending operations and diverting the aircraft to an alternative airport. The incident was classified as requiring urgent action to ensure safety. At the same time, the police began gathering information necessary to clarify the circumstances.

Norwegian Airports Facing Problems

That same evening, a similar incident was recorded in Brønnøysund, where the presence of a drone near the airport led to the cancellation of a stopover and the Widerøe aircraft continued its flight to Trondheim. After a short wait, the plan was changed due to ongoing restrictions, and as a result, the return flight on this route was canceled. Passengers were provided with alternative solutions, including accommodation after being redirected to an alternative airport.
Airport operators, police, and PST remind that in similar incidents, short-term closures and diversions are implemented immediately after a report, and carriers update flight plans and organize operational support for passengers at alternative airports. Restrictions are lifted after the situation is verified, and airports resume full operations once safety confirmations are received from services and air traffic controllers.
