At the Sleipner platform in the North Sea, employees reported the possible appearance of a drone. The incident triggered reconnaissance actions by Norwegian services. It was recorded in the context of heightened vigilance regarding offshore infrastructure.
The report came from the platform crew and was forwarded for further investigation by the police, who initiated emergency procedures and intelligence operations in the waters west of Egersund. Authorities emphasized that the priority remains the protection of extraction installations, and the process of identifying the object requires time and analysis of materials collected during the operations.

The incident is part of a period of increased reports in the region, resulting in intensified monitoring of maritime areas and airspace. Until the investigation is completed, the services will not publish information about the trajectory, type of device, or potential operator.

Is Norway a Target?

In recent days, two passenger flights in Norway were redirected after reports of drone sightings near airports. Avinor classified the incidents as serious. The police have introduced temporary drone usage restrictions regionally and are conducting increased patrols and surveillance in restricted zones.

Recent reports have also included areas near military bases, including Ørland, where F-35s are stationed, which has intensified preventive and reconnaissance actions. Operationally, this has resulted in rescheduled flights, delays, and increased control measures in areas critical to maintaining traffic continuity.

Denmark and Norway Speak with One Voice

On September 30, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense confirmed support for Denmark in counter-drone capabilities, including cooperation between experts and threat detection in the air. The decision was made at an extraordinary government meeting. The country of fjords offered its neighbor both equipment and a personnel component.

"Denmark is a close neighbor and a NATO member. When Denmark asks for such support, it is important that we provide it. In this way, we show solidarity with Denmark and our ability to contribute to collective security in Europe. Denmark's security is also our security," commented Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik.
Assistance to Denmark was provided in connection with securing two events: the EU leaders' summit (October 1) and the European Political Community meeting (October 2). Norway sent personnel and equipment to support Danish armed forces in countering potential drone threats. Sweden and France also declared support for Copenhagen.
