Donald Trump is offended by Norway. He cannot come to terms with one decision
Donald Trump has once again taken a swipe at Norway after failing to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The US president argues that his efforts to end armed conflicts deserved recognition. He called the decision to award the prize to someone else an „indelible stain” on Norway.

The reason for his latest remarks was this year’s award to Navi Pillay. The lawyer and human rights defender worked for years in international courts and tribunals. Trump spoke out on two consecutive days. First, he criticised the choice during a meeting in New York State, and the following day he published an extensive post on Truth Social.
Norway in the crosshairs. Trump does not let up
On Friday, 9 October, Trump spoke at an election rally in Syracuse. For around ten minutes, he explained why he himself or the United States should have received the Nobel Peace Prize. He then levelled accusations at Norway. He described this year’s laureate as a liberal person working for the United Nations (UN), whom, in his view, nobody had heard of before. He called the Nobel Committee’s decision disgraceful and embarrassing.
However, he did not stop there. On Saturday, 10 October, he published another post in which he presented a list of actions that, in his view, justified awarding him the prize. He wrote that he had ended eight wars. He also added that he was close to ending or resolving two further conflicts, and claimed credit for bringing Israeli hostages home. He ended the post with the exclamation „WOW!”, stressing that despite these achievements, neither he nor the US had received the Nobel Prize.

Trump lists his achievements. Not all wars have ended
The US president also pointed to events in Venezuela. He stated that he had won the war there and captured the country’s leader, whom he described as a brutal dictator. He also argued that he had prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump additionally mentioned hundreds of hostages freed from various countries, but once again did not specify which eight wars he had ended. The Norwegian daily „Dagbladet” notes that an analysis of the conflicts the president was probably referring to does not confirm success in every case.
One example is the war in the Gaza Strip. Trump counts it among the conflicts whose end he attributes to his actions, although daily attacks continue there despite the ceasefire. According to information cited by „Dagbladet”, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed during the truce. Israeli soldiers also occupy nearly 70 per cent of the Gaza Strip’s territory. The situation on the ground therefore remains different from Trump’s portrayal of a war that has ended.
The dispute with Norway over the Nobel Peace Prize has been ongoing for some time. In January, Trump said that Norway was „very embarrassed”, and in 2025 he criticised it after the prize was awarded to María Corina Machado. At the time, he also pointed out that Norway is a member of NATO and argued that his actions had saved millions of human lives.
