10,000 kroner equals PLN 4,041. Calculations based on the average exchange rate of 2 October
On 2 October 2026, the krone was around 10.6% stronger against the Polish zloty than on 1 October 2025. This is good news for people who earn money in Norway and send money to Poland. According to Norges Bank's average exchange rate on Friday, 2 October, NOK 10,000 was equivalent to around PLN 4,041.
NOK 1,000 is worth PLN 404
MN
A year earlier, on 1 October 2025, it was around PLN 3,653. The krone was even stronger on 24 September. At that time, NOK 10,000 was equivalent to around PLN 4,062. This was the highest level against the zloty since autumn 2023. However, it should be remembered that these are average exchange rates. This does not mean that we will receive exactly this amount when making a transfer through a bank or currency exchange office.
More zloty for the same amount of kroner
The difference is easiest to see when making a regular transfer to Poland.

Amounts rounded. Calculations based on Norges Bank's average exchange rates. For a person who regularly sends money to family in Poland, the difference becomes noticeable. With a transfer of
NOK 3,000 per month, the current exchange rate provides around
PLN 117 more than a year ago. If such a difference were maintained for 12 months, it would amount to around
PLN 1,400 per year. This is not additional income or a pay rise. It simply means that the same number of kroner can currently buy more zloty.
A PLN 2,000 instalment costs around NOK 527 less
The exchange rate is felt even more strongly by people who earn money in Norway but have a loan or other fixed expenses in Poland. An example instalment of
PLN 2,000:
- at the exchange rate of 1 October 2025, required around NOK 5,475,
- at the exchange rate of 2 October 2026, it is around NOK 4,949.
The difference is around
NOK 527 per month. The situation is similar when financing the construction of a house, a flat renovation, child support or other regular expenses in Poland from a Norwegian salary.
A NAV benefit may be worth more in zloty
A stronger krone also benefits people living in Poland who receive benefits paid in NOK. This applies, among others, to some people receiving:
- a Norwegian pension,
- uføretrygd (disability benefit),
- barnetrygd (child benefit),
- kontantstøtte (cash-for-care benefit).
If the amount of the benefit in kroner has not changed, its value converted into zloty is now higher than a year ago. With an exchange-rate difference of around 10.6%, a benefit worth PLN 4,000 a year ago may now be equivalent to more than PLN 4,400. However, this does not mean that NAV has increased the benefit. Its value after conversion into zloty changes. Entitlement to receive individual Norwegian benefits while staying or living in Poland depends on the type of benefit and the individual situation.
The krone has also strengthened against the euro
The change in NOK/PLN is not solely due to the zloty's performance. Over the year, the krone also strengthened clearly against the euro. The EUR/NOK rate changed from around 11.66 to around 10.83. At the same time, the zloty weakened against the euro. This means that the stronger krone itself accounts for a large part of the increase in NOK's value against PLN, while the weaker zloty accounts for a smaller part.
Norges Bank points to a stronger krone
On 24 September, Norges Bank announced its interest-rate decision. The key policy rate has been 4.50% since 25 September. The Norwegian central bank also drew attention to the exchange rate. A stronger krone in itself limits price growth. The exchange rate is important to Norges Bank, among other reasons, because Norway imports a large share of its goods. A stronger currency can reduce import costs and help curb inflation. Norges Bank's next interest-rate decision is scheduled for 5 November.
It is still far from the krone's former levels
The current exchange rate may look favourable, especially compared with the past two years, but it is not a record high. On average:
- in 2022, NOK 10,000 was worth around PLN 4,638,
- in 2020, around PLN 4,145,
- in 2012, as much as around PLN 5,596.
The current PLN 4,041 for NOK 10,000 therefore primarily means that the krone has returned to levels not seen for several years, rather than that the Norwegian currency has reached a historically high value.
The average rate is not the rate you will get at a bank
When planning a transfer, one thing should be kept in mind. The average exchange rate of Norges Bank or the National Bank of Poland (NBP) primarily serves as a reference point. A bank, currency exchange office or transfer operator applies its own rate and may add a margin or commission. In NBP Table C of 2 October, the NOK buying rate was PLN 0.3992. At this rate, NOK 10,000 gave around PLN 3,992, rather than the PLN 4,041 resulting from the average rate. For NOK 10,000, even a PLN 0.01 difference in the rate means PLN 100. Therefore, for a larger transfer, it is best to compare not only the advertised rate, but the final amount in zloty that will actually reach the account.
