You can earn 6,000 NOK tax-free. You need to meet a few conditions
Mowing lawns, cleaning, babysitting, or helping around the house can provide extra income tax-free. In Norway, you can receive up to 6,000 NOK per year from a single private household. This rule is separate from the frikort, but it does not apply to all types of work.
16- and 17-year-olds no longer pay egenandel for services covered by the frikort. This includes visits to the GP and emergency room, outpatient treatment, selected physiotherapy, transport for treatment, and medications on a blå resept.

This concerns small jobs performed for a private person in their home or holiday cottage (hytte).
- mowing the lawn,
- snow shoveling,
- cleaning,
- garden work,
- babysitting,
- minor help with moving,
- assembling furniture or other small household tasks.
This does not apply to work for a company, shop, restaurant, or workshop.
From a single household, you can receive up to 6,000 NOK per year tax-free.
It doesn't matter whether you receive the money in one payment or in several installments. The total amount for the year is what counts.
Example:
- 2,000 NOK for mowing the lawn,
- 2,500 NOK for painting the fence,
- 1,500 NOK for cleaning.
That totals 6,000 NOK, so you are still within the limit.
If you exceed 6,000 NOK from the same household, the entire amount must be reported to Skatteetaten. Whether you pay tax depends, among other things, on your other income and your frikort.
In 2026, the frikort limit is 100,000 NOK.
This means you can have a regular job and use the frikort, and in addition, take on small jobs from private individuals. Earnings within the 6,000 NOK limit from a single household should not reduce your frikort limit.
You can help several different people, but there is no official rule that ten clients always means 60,000 NOK tax-free.
If you regularly look for jobs, advertise your services, have many clients, and perform similar work throughout the year, Skatteetaten may consider that you are running a business.
Before starting work, agree on:
- exactly what you are to do,
- how much you will get paid,
- when the payment will be made,
- whether materials are included in the price,
- how much you have already earned from this person this year.
It is best to receive payment by bank transfer or via Vipps and keep messages related to the job.
