Wind gusts of up to 119 km/h and heavy rain. Warnings for parts of Norway
On Monday, 5 October, strong winds may disrupt travel in parts of Møre og Romsdal, Trøndelag and Helgeland. Warnings for heavy rain, flooding and landslides are in effect in the west of the country. Before travelling to and from work, it is worth checking the entire route, especially if it crosses bridges or requires a ferry crossing.

Information status: morning of 5 October 2026. All times are given in Norwegian time.
Strong winds from noon. Possible problems on bridges and ferries
The Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET) warns of local gusts of 27–33 m/s, or around 97–119 km/h. The warning covers parts of Møre og Romsdal, Trøndelag and southern Helgeland. It is in effect from 12:00 on Monday until 01:00 on Tuesday, 6 October. The wind is expected to strengthen first in Sunnmøre and ease last in northern Trøndelag and Helgeland. The stated speeds refer to gusts, not sustained wind. MET lists possible flight and sailing cancellations, bridge closures and closures of exposed stretches of road. Fallen trees may appear on roads, and power outages are also possible. Bergen is not covered by this wind warning.
Rain in the west until 18:00
In parts of Vestland and Rogaland, MET forecasts 60–100 mm of rain within 24 hours, locally up to 120 mm. The warning, which began on Sunday, remains in effect until 18:00 on Monday. Separate notices have been issued by the Norwegian authority responsible for water resources and natural hazards (NVE). The flood warning covers parts of Rogaland, Vestland and Møre og Romsdal. It primarily concerns local flooding of streams and rivers, as well as erosion of their banks. A landslide warning is also in effect for parts of Vestland and Rogaland. NVE identified early Monday morning as the period of the heaviest rain. The authority expects the risk to decrease in the afternoon, but warns that roads and railway lines may be closed in vulnerable areas. This is not an announcement that any specific route will be closed.

* The MET warning covers at least part of the municipality. The exact extent is defined by the area on the map, not by the administrative boundary. “No” means that a given warning is not included in the overview; it does not guarantee safe conditions.
Central Stavanger and Sandnes, as well as Florø, remain outside the rain warning area. However, the municipalities of Stavanger, Sandnes and Kinn appear on MET's list because the zone covers other parts of them. At the same time, NVE maintains a flood warning for Stavanger municipality. An NVE warning does not mean that every street is at risk of flooding.
There are already changes to ferry and passenger boat services
Oldeide–Måløy: in a notice issued on Monday, 5 October, at 05:22, Fjord1 announced that the service had been suspended until further notice. The operator gave two reasons: weather conditions and reconstruction work at the quay in Måløy. Route 980 in Trøndelag: AtB published a notice on Sunday, 4 October, at 22:18 announcing the cancellation of Monday's sailings from the 07:50 departure from Rørvik until the end of the day due to the weather. Replacement buses were indicated for passengers on the 07:50 departure from Rørvik and the 12:10 departure from Namsos. These are specific notices from operators, not information that all crossings in the region have been suspended. Before travelling to the ferry terminal, check whether a newer update has been issued.
Do not drive into water, and secure items against the wind
MET advises people not to drive into deep water. Water on the road increases the risk of losing traction. Do not approach swollen streams either: strong currents can be life-threatening. If it can be done safely, remove leaves from drains and culverts. NVE recommends moving valuable items away from places at risk of flooding and relocating cars parked near rivers and streams. During a landslide warning, avoid steep slopes and waterways with high water flow. In areas covered by the wind warning, secure loose outdoor items. MET advises limiting unnecessary time in exposed locations and taking care near the seashore.
Where to check your journey and return trip
Roads and bridges: the Vegvesen trafikk service provides information on closures, disruptions and camera images along your route. Buses, ferries and passenger boats: check notices from Skyss in Vestland, Kolumbus in Rogaland, FRAM in Møre og Romsdal, and AtB in Trøndelag. For sailings, also check notices from the operator, such as Fjord1. Trains and flights: check Bane NOR and the rail operator's app, and before flying, check Avinor's departure board and messages from the airline. NVE announced that the next scheduled update of its flood and landslide warnings would be issued no later than 11:00 on Monday. The current extent should be checked on the Varsom service.
