Norwegian parties with record revenues. It is known who gave them the most money
For the first time, Norwegian political parties reported combined revenues exceeding NOK 1 billion. In 2025, they reached nearly NOK 1.046 billion, with public support remaining the largest source of funding. At the same time, the share of money coming from donors was steadily increasing.

Direct support from the state, counties and municipalities amounted to NOK 635 million in 2025. This represented 60.6% of all party revenues, according to data from Statistics Norway (SSB). This is the lowest recorded share of public funds. In 2009, also an election year, they accounted for around 70% of revenues.
Record party revenues. Election year ended with a deficit
The parties' total costs in 2025 amounted to nearly NOK 1.1 billion. As expenditure exceeded revenue, the parties reported a combined deficit of NOK 52 million. However, the result varied by party. The Fremskrittspartiet organisation reported a combined deficit of nearly NOK 20 million.

Høyre was in a different situation. The party reported a combined surplus of NOK 14 million, while the entire party sector ended the year in the red. This overall result was not unusual for an election year. SSB points out that parties usually record total expenditure exceeding revenue in such years.

More money after the election. Donors gave NOK 217 million
Before the election, parties reported receiving NOK 163 million in contributions. Over the course of 2025, however, a further NOK 54 million was disclosed, bringing the total value of support to NOK 217 million. The biggest differences concerned Arbeiderpartiet and Miljøpartiet De Grønne. In both cases, the annual total was clearly higher than the amount known on election day.

Arbeiderpartiet reported NOK 16.6 million more than before the vote. Of this amount, NOK 9 million came from labour market organisations, including trade unions, while MDG reported more than NOK 10 million in additional contributions, of which almost NOK 9.9 million was donated by private individuals. Some large contributions reached the parties only after the election. In other cases, earlier individual payments had not exceeded the threshold requiring immediate reporting.
The largest source of private support throughout 2025 was labour market organisations, which gave NOK 66 million to the parties. Companies and commercial entities contributed nearly NOK 59 million, while private individuals gave just over NOK 50 million. The data therefore also show which groups accounted for the growing share of money coming from outside the public funding system.
