Drivers' nightmare has come true. The price of diesel has crossed a psychological barrier

The price of diesel fuel in Norway has exceeded NOK 30 per litre. Such prices appeared at several stations after the temporary tax reduction ended on 1 September. Users of the DrivstoffAppen app confirmed prices above this threshold in four locations.

The increase became visible in the first days of September. Syver Orhagen, managing director of the DrivstoffAppen app, told VG that after 1 September, at 16 stations there had been at least one entry indicating a diesel price higher than NOK 30 per litre. However, not all reports were confirmed by subsequent users. In four cases, the price was verified by more than one person.

Diesel at NOK 30. The driver had to look twice

Alexander Breide saw one such price. On Sunday afternoon, he was returning to Holmestrand after a weekend spent at a holiday cottage when he noticed an amount exceeding NOK 30 at the Esso Express Valdresporten station. As he told VG, it was the first time he had seen such a diesel price. He had to check it again.

The sign displayed NOK 30.59 per litre. Orhagen stated that the price was recorded on 6 September at 1 p.m. and was later confirmed by four other users. The day before, diesel at that location had cost NOK 30.39. On Monday at 1 p.m., the price had already fallen to NOK 26.19 per litre.

Four stations with confirmation. There were far more reports

According to data provided by Orhagen, since 1 September, 16 stations had received at least one report of a diesel price exceeding NOK 30. However, only at four locations was the information confirmed by several users. These were Esso Express Valdresporten Nes in Ådal, Esso Løkkemyra in Kristiansund, Circle K Lura in Sandnes, and Esso Ås Veiservice. These were the locations included on the list of verified cases.

Breide noticed the price while charging his electric car at Valdresporten. As he recounted, there was no queue at the pumps. He himself was using a fast charger at the time. Recently, however, he had to deal with a battery failure in his electric car, which was covered by the warranty.
The price changes occurred directly after the temporary tax reduction ended on 1 September. The Valdresporten case also shows that the price at the same station can change significantly within several dozen hours. Between Sunday's level of NOK 30.59 and Monday's price of NOK 26.19, the difference amounted to NOK 4.40 per litre.

Source: VG
