On Monday, 12 October, Donald Tusk welcomed the Norwegian prime minister at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM). Jonas Gahr Støre’s visit includes talks on bilateral relations as well as the most important European and international issues. Both a one-on-one meeting between the heads of government and talks between the delegations of the two countries have been planned.
Security takes centre stage. The Baltic and Arctic at the heart of talks
Security is one of the main topics of the meeting. According to the KPRM’s announcement, the prime ministers discussed the development of Polish-Norwegian cooperation, with particular emphasis on the strategic regions of the Baltic Sea and the Arctic. Both areas were included on the official agenda. The heads of government were also expected to address the most important issues concerning the situation in Europe and international cooperation.
The talks also cover economic and defence matters. Donald Tusk and Jonas Gahr Støre were expected to discuss cooperation in energy and defence industries, as well as opportunities for further support for Ukraine. Sanctions against Russia will be an important point. According to the KPRM’s announcement, the prime ministers addressed maintaining and strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia as part of continued support for Ukraine.
Norway and Poland are allies and close partners. That is why this partnership is important to us. At a time of war in Europe and serious security challenges, we are supporting Ukraine together and working to strengthen security in our part of Europe.
~ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Norway’s prime minister visits Warsaw. Further meetings on the agenda
Jonas Gahr Støre began Monday’s programme by taking part in the Warsaw Security Forum conference. Before noon, he attended an event devoted to security issues and then headed to a meeting with Donald Tusk. After the talks, both prime ministers made statements to the media. A meeting of the Polish and Norwegian delegations is also planned, during which talks between representatives of both countries will continue.
The visit’s programme does not end there. In the afternoon, the Norwegian prime minister is scheduled to meet President Karol Nawrocki at the Presidential Palace. Støre is visiting Poland again this year. In February, together with Donald Tusk, he visited the Dęba-Lipa Land Forces Training Centre in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
In today’s world, where the international order is being violated, where law, norms, rules and principles are being broken by the world’s most powerful figures, building such relations based on business, morality, geopolitics and security is truly invaluable.
~ said the Polish prime minister.
The Polish-Norwegian Camp Jomsborg project operates at this training ground. Norwegian soldiers conduct training there together with military personnel from other Nordic and Baltic countries. The programme is aimed at soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is one example of Polish-Norwegian military cooperation in support of Ukraine.
